ON
GOING PROJECTS
ULM is delivering seminars in schools,
churches and communities to create women’s and children’s rights awareness
amongst youths, in Wakiso, Kampala and Mbarara districts. As a result seven ULM
clubs have been formed in schools (these clubs sustain the ULM program in the
school) and about 300 human rights hand books have been donated to twenty
schools in Kampala district.
The core strength of ULM is our excellent
understanding of the communities we serve and our practical approach to finding
solutions to community problems. This strength is rooted in the fact that most
of ULM’s staff is composed of professionals with many personal experience and testimonies of human
rights abuses.
NEW PROJECT
ULM is proposing a project to establish a
more sustainable community that can confront the effects of patriarchy,
religious fundamentalism and extremism and pseudo African cultural beliefs. Project Objectives: To establish a network of defenders and activists of women’s and
sexual minorities’ (WASM) rights in the five districts of Kampala, Wakiso, Jinja, Mukono and Mubende.
(1),To establish local easy to reach WASM rights watch centers that shall
advocate, promote and protect the rights and interests of women and sexual
minorities in their areas. (2), To establish an effective, full time
communication system for networking, knowledge and experience sharing,
reporting and disseminating any other information concerning WASM amongst WASM
rights defenders, activists, scholars and the international community. (3), To enhance the capacity of religious and cultural leaders in
addressing gender based violence using human rights and theological approaches.
